Grey County, Ontario is located on the southern shores of Georgian Bay. This adventure took us to almost every small town and village in the County. This was the complete autumn trip; it included everything from Tom going rock climbing to seeing the Guinness Book of World Record's scarecrows in Meaford. There were apple orchards and festivals. Lighthouses standing majestically on a shoreline or an island conjure up images of romance and adventure. As picturesque as they are, their flashing lights served a necessary, practical function for mariners of the past. The waters of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay can be treacherous--many an unfortunate ship didn't weather the storm, even with the aid of a lighthouse beacon! This trip will take us to 8 different lighthouses all located on Lake Huron in Bruce County.

The land we know as Grey County was familiar to Native peoples of the Huron, and other nations. When the British acquired this land, they referred to it as "The Queen's Bush." Colonization roads, mail roads, and natural harbors gave access for settlers. Also, often called "the sixth Great Lake" Georgian Bay touches the Grey County shore from Colpoy's Bay to the Town of The Blue Mountains. Where the waters and the rocks meet, Grey County offers an abundance of waterfalls. So appealing that they merit their own tour, these special places are often just a short drive or hike from busy roads.
