M-94 consists of two distinct segments: a north-south portion linking US-2 at Manistique with M-28 at Singleton and an east-west part linking M-553 at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base with M-28 at Munising (with a section concurrent with M-28 between Munsing and Shingleton). South of Shingleton, M-94 runs through forest lands as a part of the Great Manistique Swamp. Along the way are national forest campgrounds located near Steuben. South of Crooked Lake, M-94 curves to the east before turning almost due south to the Manistique area. In Manistique, M-94 enters town on North 5th St before turning to follow Deer Street and River Street. On River Street, the trunkline uses the Siphon Bridge to cross the Manistique River and then uses Elk and Maple streets before terminating at US 2 at Lakeshore Drive.

Located in the central and eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan the Forest encompasses approximately 880,000 acres and receives 1.5 million recreational visits per year. The Forest affords visitors access to white sand, scenic beaches and relatively undeveloped shorelines. The West Unit is located in the central of the Upper Peninsula, bordering two of the Great Lakes - Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. The western portion of the Hiawatha extends from the towns of Rapid River and Manistique, along Lake Michigan, to the town of Munising on the Lake Superior shore.

Hundreds of miles of some of the best trails in Michigan's Upper Peninsula await you in the Hiawatha National Forest. Our trails take you on delightful tours of the northwoods - to remote lakes and streams where you may catch a glimpse of a loon, a soaring bald eagle, or simply to spend a day in the vast expanse of the forest. With so much water in and around the forest, there are ample opportunities to enjoy the lakes and rivers on the Hiawatha National Forest!

Ashford Lake Pathway is known more for its cross country skiing than its summer and fall hiking. That’s ok because that means its another secret that only a few know about. The trail is a two-track path consisting of 3 loops that wind around the lake, where visitors can spot local wildlife and an old abandoned cabin ruin. It lies on the north side of Ashford Lake, a nice camping and fishing lake that can be enjoyed by families and adventurers alike. The trails are well-marked and maintained by the MI-DNR.

Jack Pine Lodge is a Campground, nostalgic Bar & Grill, and resort located in the Hiawatha Forest in Michigan's U.P. between Pictured Rocks & Big Spring. The current log restaurant and bar building were built in 1946. The new campground was completed in 2014. The six rental cabins were built in the 1950s and have been refurbished in 2009. This Hiawatha National Forest area is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground offering access to miles of groomed snowmobile & ORV trails, great hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, cross-country ski trails, and horseback riding trails. The Jack Pine Lodge's Bar and Grill offers a full bar and menu and specializes in handcrafted pizzas. The Lodge is host to many annual events such as the Annual Long Riders Relic Ride, Snowmobile, ATV, Pig Roasts, Motorcycle Poker, and other exciting events.
